Commander Jeffrey Juergens

Commanding Officer USS San Francisco (SSN 711)

Raised in Weston, Missouri, CDR Juergens received a bachelors of science in electrical engineering and a commission in the United States Navy through the NROTC program from the University of Illinois in 1997. 

After completion of Nuclear Power Training and the Submarine Officer Basic Course, CDR Juergens reported onboard the USS OHIO (SSBN 726)(BLUE) in July 1998, where he served as chemistry and radiological control assistant, damage control assistant and assistant engineer. While onboard, he completed five strategic deterrent patrols.

From September 2001 to September 2003, CDR Juergens was assigned USSTRATCOM, where he served as a policy and doctrine officer.  He then reported to the Submarine Officer's Advanced Course in Groton, Connecticut for department head training, graduating in March 2003.

In April 2003, CDR Juergens reported onboard USS OLYMPIA (SSN 717) as the engineer officer. There, he completed a western pacific deployment, operating in the seventh fleet areas of responsibility. During that time, the ship was awarded the battle efficiency award.

In November 2006, he transferred to the Pacific Fleet Nuclear Propulsion Examination Board, serving as an inspector and board executive officer. Subsequently, he attended the United States Army Command General Staff College from June 2008 until June 2009, graduating with distinction and receiving his Masters Degree in Military Studies.

In October 2009, CDR Juergens relieved as executive officer onboard USS MAINE (SSBN 741)(GOLD). While there, the ship completed three strategic deterrent patrols.

In August 2011, following completion of his executive officer tour, CDR Juergens reported to Navy Recruiting Command and served as the director of submarine, nuclear and NROTC recruiting.

In January 2014, he reported to USS San Francisco (SSN 711) where he currently serves as the Commanding Officer.
