Commander David A. Lott Commanding Officer, USS Hampton (SSN 767) Commander Lott, a native of Natchez, MS graduated with Merit from the United States Naval Academy in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering. Following commissioning he completed initial nuclear propulsion training in Orlando, Florida and Charleston, South Carolina. In January 1993 after submarine school in Groton, Connecticut, Commander Lott reported aboard the USS Jacksonville (SSN 699) in Norfolk, Virginia. He served as Main Propulsion Assistant and Damage Control Assistant while the ship completed three deployments in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Oceans, earning a Meritorious Unit Commendation. In May 1996 he reported as Assistant Professor of Naval Science at Duke University and earned a Masters of Science Degree in Engineering Management from North Carolina State University. In July 1999 he completed the Submarine Officer Advanced Course in Groton, Connecticut, earning the LY Spear Award. Commander Lott reported in July 1999 aboard the USS Tennessee (SSBN 734) (BLUE) as Engineer Officer in Kings Bay, Georgia. The ship completed six strategic deterrent patrols and was awarded the 2002 Submarine Squadron 20 Engineering Excellence “E”. In April 2003 he reported for duty as the Force Radiological Controls Officer on the Commander, Submarine Force Pacific Fleet staff in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. In November 2003 he transferred to the Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board on the Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet staff in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He then completed the Submarine Command Course in Groton, Connecticut, in November 2004. Commander Lott reported in February 2005 aboard the USS Alaska (SSBN 732) (BLUE) as the Executive Officer in Bangor, Washington. The ship completed two strategic deterrent patrols and all preparations for crew combination and inter-fleet transfer to Norfolk, VA for an Engineered Refueling Overhaul. USS Alaska was awarded the 2005 USSTRATCOM Omaha Trophy as the best strategic asset in the SSBN inventory. In July 2006 Commander Lott was assigned temporary duty to USS Tucson (SSN 770) to conduct a Western Pacific operation en route to Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet as the Submarine Operations Officer in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He completed the Prospective Commanding Officer Course and the Submarine Command Course in May 2008 en route to Commander Submarine Squadron One as the Deputy Commander for Readiness in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Commander Lott reported in June 2010 to his present assignment as the Commanding Officer of USS Hampton (SSN 767) in San Diego, California. Commander Lott has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various campaign and unit awards. |
